पात्रविशेषे न्यस्तं गुणान्तरं व्रजति शिल्पमाधातुः। जलमिव समुद्रशुक्तौ मुक्ताफलतां पयोदस्य॥

pātraviśeṣe nyastaṃ guṇāntaraṃ vrajati śilpam ādhātuḥ । jalam iva samudraśuktau muktāphalatāṃ payodasya ॥

PM's Message

When true talent finds a positive environment, it releases remarkable energy. This brings success to one's efforts and also makes life meaningful.

Meaning of Pātraviśeṣe Nyastaṃ Guṇāntaraṃ Vrajati

The value and greatness of a person or thing depend greatly on the environment and guidance they receive. Just as an ordinary drop of water becomes a precious pearl when it enters an oyster shell, ordinary qualities can become extraordinary when they find the right place, support, and nurturing.

Commentary

The verse says that an instructor's art or skill acquires a new excellence when it is entrusted to a worthy recipient. The words pātraviśeṣe and nyastam emphasize both suitability and careful placement: ability flourishes when the person receiving it can hold and develop it. Kalidasa makes this idea vivid through rainwater entering a sea oyster and becoming a pearl, an image in which the same water gains a transformed value through its receptacle. The verse therefore recognizes a relationship between latent capability, the learner's receptivity, and the guiding hand that transmits an art. The Prime Minister's message applies this image to the positive environment around talent. That modern application extends the verse's picture of teacher, recipient, and transformation into a wider reflection on support and meaningful achievement: when ability meets the right conditions, its possibilities become visible and fruitful.
