Sanskrit Shlokas on Vidya

Sanskrit thought draws a careful line between what you have been told and what you have understood. The Bhagavad Gita holds that nothing purifies like knowledge and that the seeker finds it within. The Kamandakiya Nitisara defines intelligence not as recall but as discovering what was unknown and settling what was uncertain. The Darpadalanam asks what knowledge actually yields, and answers: modesty, benevolence, patience.

This selection also gathers what the tradition says about teachers—the Kularnava Tantra listing the six roles a guru fills, and Kalidasa on the rare teacher who has both mastery and the ability to pass it on. Each verse links to its full page with meanings in Hindi and English and a verified source.
