Commentary
Shailaputri means 'daughter of the mountain' and traditionally identifies the goddess as the daughter of Himavat. The verse says that the speaker bows for the attainment of what is desired; its purpose dative vāñchitalābhāya does not by itself promise that every wish will be fulfilled. It then portrays her with the crescent as her crest, mounted on a bull, bearing a trident, and glorious. Readings of the crescent as calm clarity, the trident as creation, preservation, and dissolution, and the bull as dharma are traditional symbolism rather than meanings explicitly stated in these compounds. They enrich the devotional image when kept distinct from the literal description.
