Commentary
This meditation verse addresses Chandraghanta, the third form of Navadurga. It says that she is mounted on piṇḍajapravara, ‘the foremost of creatures/beasts,’ is furnished with weapons of fierce wrath, and extends favour to the speaker. Identifying that mount specifically as a lion comes from Chandraghanta’s traditional iconography rather than from an explicit word for lion in this verse. Likewise, the Sanskrit does not enumerate her hands; descriptions of what her hands hold belong to the wider iconographic tradition. The compact verse itself joins a formidable armed form with a request for prasāda, gracious favour, allowing protective courage to be drawn as a devotional interpretation without presenting every familiar image as literal wording.
