Commentary

This verse praises Prabhasa, the sacred region associated with Somnath, as a place established by Shiva for the welfare of all living beings. The phrase sarvaprāṇi-hitāya makes universal benefit, rather than private gain, the purpose of the holy place. Its radiance is spiritual as well as physical: the place is imagined as one in which human beings may attain siddhi, or fulfilment in disciplined spiritual life. The verse therefore presents pilgrimage as an encounter with a sacred environment shaped by compassion. A tīrtha becomes meaningful not merely through geography, but through the transformation and wider concern it awakens in those who visit it.
