Commentary
This verse is a direct act of praise, addressing Jagannath as devadeva, the Lord even of the gods, and as jagannātha, the master of the whole world. The phrase surāsuranamaskṛta expands his worship beyond one group: gods and asuras alike bow before him. The second line moves from outer worship to inner metaphysics, calling him avyaya, imperishable, ananta, infinite, and paramātman, the Supreme Self. Reading this as presence in every heart is a broader theological interpretation, not something the verse states explicitly. The verse therefore joins temple devotion with a universal spiritual vision. In the context of Rath Yatra, the moving chariot becomes a public image of the same idea: the divine is not confined to the sanctum, but comes among people as a source of grace, renewal, and shared devotion.
