Commentary
The verse addresses the Goddess through a series of names, each expressing a reason for seeking her grace. Sarvamaṅgalamāṅgalye praises her as the most auspicious of all that is auspicious, while śive calls her benevolent and auspicious. Sarvārthasādhike names her as the fulfiller of all aims, and śaraṇye presents her as one in whom a devotee can take refuge. The image of three eyes and the names Gauri and Narayani bring familiar divine forms into this single act of worship. The closing words, namo’stu te, offer a salutation, giving devotees a brief prayer through which to express reverence and seek support in their undertakings.
