Meaning of Yogena Cittasya Padena Vācāṃ
I bow down with folded palms to Sage Patanjali, the most exalted among the contemplative sages, who has removed impurity of the mind-content through yoga, of speech through grammar and of the body through Ayurveda.

Commentary
This invocation bows to Patanjali as a sage who purifies the three great instruments of human life: mind, speech, and body. Yoga is presented as the discipline that removes impurity from citta, the mind-field; pada, or grammar and linguistic discipline, refines speech; and vaidyaka, medicine, restores bodily well-being. The verse reflects the traditional association of Patanjali with the Yoga Sutra, the Mahabhashya on grammar, and the healing sciences. Whether these works belong to one historical figure or to a revered Patanjali tradition, the verse preserves an important cultural idea: true refinement must touch thought, expression, and physical health together. In the context of daily yoga practice, the teaching becomes especially practical. A balanced life is not built by caring for the body alone or the mind alone, but by bringing discipline, clarity, and health into one integrated way of living.
